
KEY STAGE 3 & GCSE
KS3 ENGLISH
During this critical stage, tutors teach children to develop the important skills of analysis. They learn tools that enable them to interpret and use a variety language styles, link ideas and grow an appreciation for imaginative content.
The syllabus focuses on comprehension, textual analysis, poetry and different genres of creative writing. Children are taught to develop clear and concise sentences and discuss ideas in an open, confident and fluent manner.
These classes are the ideal preparation in the lead-up to the GCSE/IGCSE programme.
English Language GCSE
Right from the beginning of the September term, the main elements of the AQA GCSE English Language syllabus are introduced and explored in detail. Some of the key topics covered include:
Recognising implicit and explicit information & ideas
Exploring writers’ use of language and structure
Recognising and evaluating a range of structural devices
Comparing texts and summarising similarities and differences
Assessing how writers convey their ideas and attitudes
Descriptive and narrative writing
Writing with a variety of purposes such as persuasion and instruction.
Engaging with 19th-century prose and 20th-century texts
Elements of GCSE SPAG (spelling, punctuation, and grammar)
KS3 MATHEMATICS
Mathematics is an interconnected subject in which pupils need to be able to move fluently between a variety of mathematical ideas.
Our KS3 Maths classes have been developed to help build confidence in mathematics and prepare students for their GCSEs.
This class aims to help students to gain confidence in areas of Maths they may have some uncertainty or concerns about and to ensure that students have a sound understanding of all KS3 Maths topics. A solid foundation is formed here before a successful progression to KS4 and GCSE preparation can be made.
Maths GCSE Foundation Course
This robust course aims to:
Ensure students have a sound understanding of Foundation Level Maths GCSE skills and their application.
Develop students’ confidence in key Maths Subject areas end ensure a smooth transition between Year 9, 10 and 11 curriculums.
Deliver revision of subject areas covered during the KS 4 years.
Teach examination techniques and offer a "Walk Through" of past and practice papers.
GCSE Higher Maths
This class is structured to allow pupils to work through past papers or focus on a particular topic of their choice. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves at every step. Through establishing a close line of understanding with the teacher, pupils get the opportunity to work on key gaps in knowledge, increase their confidence and learn tips and tricks for achieving success in their Higher Maths GCSE exams.
